Who can apply for the MFC CDT programme?
Candidates with a strong background in mathematics, physics, computer science, or related disciplines. Ideal candidates should have a first-class or strong upper second-class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. Candidates must hold a master’s in mathematics (this includes an MMath) or a related field with a strong mathematics content by the start of the PhD programme.

What funding is available for the MFC CDT programme?
The MFC CDT offers fully-funded studentships covering:
Stipend: A competitive tax-free stipend.
Fees: Full coverage of tuition fees.
Research Costs: Funding for research-related expenses, including travel and conference attendance.
Can I apply to MFC CDT at more than one institution?
What are the stages of the student selection process?
The MFC CDT aims to recruit students of the highest calibre. Detailed information about the application and selection process is available on the ‘How To Apply’ page.
The selection process involves:
- Initial review by the MFC CDT Management Board and an informal interview.
- Successful candidates are invited to choose up to three projects from the list of available projects at the institution(s) they applied to.
- Final interview with the project supervisors and MFC CDT staff.
Assessments are based on the candidate’s suitability for the CDT programme, research aptitude, academic ability, performance during the interview, scientific aspirations, and feedback from the supervisors they meet.

Fully Funded Studentships
Study while receiving a full stipend (with London weighting), PhD fees paid for 4 years, and a generous allowance for research-related travel.
