Congratulations to Alberto on his Election as Fellow of the Royal Society

May 29, 2026 | News

We are delighted to congratulate Prof Alberto C. Naveira Garabato FRS, Regius Professor of Ocean Sciences at the University of Southampton, on his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society — the UK’s national academy of sciences.

The Royal Society announced on 27 May 2026 that over 90 outstanding researchers from across the world have been elected to its Fellowship this year, spanning fields from astronomy and cancer research to mathematics and biotechnology. Alberto is among those honoured.

Reflecting on the award, Prof Garabato said: “I am very grateful to the Royal Society for granting me this honour. Throughout my journey in oceanography, I have been immensely lucky to have had the opportunity to work with many gifted and kind collaborators of all career stages. I think of this Fellowship as a shared recognition of their talent and effort.”

The entire MFC CDT community — students, supervisors, and staff across Imperial College London, the University of Reading, and the University of Southampton — extends our warmest congratulations to Alberto on this richly deserved honour. We look forward to his continued inspiration and contributions to the CDT’s mission of developing the next generation of mathematicians and scientists equipped to tackle the challenges of our future climate.
